W&W Wardrobe - Katy T

W&W Wardrobe - Katy T

We are thrilled to resurrect our wardrobe series after a bit of a hiatus. This is a place for us to delve a little bit deeper into your life and style choices, from style icons to your 'go to' pieces.

First up is a long time friend of Watson and White Katy T.  Our friendship goes way back to school in the eighties and our shared love of music, big hair and graphic T's.

She's a beautiful, fire cracker of a friend, now living in London with her daughter and although we don't see each other as much as we'd like, I try and check in with her when I'm in London. Not only because she likes to do a lot of the same activities as me but because she always fills me in in on all the new things she’s loving and doesn't let me leave her home until I’ve tried them all! Over to Katy....

"I had a cream waffle-textured Lycra trouser suit in the 90s which I loved but looking back I'm surprised I didn't get arrested"

Tell us what you do?

I'm an Executive Assistant.

Describe your personal style for us?

Bright, comfortable & practical.

Who is your biggest style inspiration?

Ali McGraw, Aliexis Colby, Audrey Hepburn, Bianca Jagger - Not that you would know!

How often do you shop?

Every couple of months, online mostly as I have a young daughter so shopping is not as easy as it used to be.

What has been your biggest fashion faux pas?

Too many to mention; I had a cream waffle-textured Lycra trouser suit in the 90s which I loved but looking back I'm surprised I didn't get arrested.

What's the one piece you always buy every single season?
Black opaque tights.

What's the item you are guaranteed to wear at least once a week?

Leggings, under dresses or over-sized sweatshirts.

Jumper or Jacket?

Jacket - I do love a jumper but jackets tend to have pockets.

What are your favourite 'go to' Brands?

Its pretty much high street now… Zara, H&M, Next, Van Dal for not-too-high heels.

Describe your weekend style?

Leggings and a long top or skinny jeans with a denim jacket and ankle boots.  Something with an expandable waist!  Maxi dresses are great for eating.  I wore my maternity jeans forever...

How has your style evolved over the years?

I now wear things which suit my body type rather than clothes which I simply liked, I'm happier now in flats and high-waist trousers.  I have a one-in, one-out rule and don't separate my wardrobe into Summer/Winter, I like to layer up; a polo neck under a light summer top or dress in winter (Uniqlo's Heat-Tech is great for this), let's face it, we don't get much summer here.  I've always loved animal print, faux fur and have a lot of floral/leaf prints; I also really like African wax fabrics and make clothes for my daughter with them.

What's your most treasured item?

Hmmm…probably my Grandma's black silk cheongsam with red velvet applique flowers and beading (which doesn't fit me).

Do you have a signature scent?

I probably like fragrance more than bags or shoes - depending on my mood and the weather I love Acqua di Parma colognes, Café Rose/Black Orchid/White Patchouli by Tom Ford, Cristalle & Coco by Chanel and Zara's collabs with Jo Loves are also excellent and very affordable.

Song currently on repeat?

Heat Waves by Glass Animals or Regulate by Warren G.

Must read book recommendation?

The Master and Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov.

What's on your bedside table right now?

Emma - Jane Austen, The Good Soldier Svejk - Jaroslav Hasek, The Art of the Scarf - (I love a silk scarf!), coaster and lamp.

Whose wardrobe do you covet the most?

Julianne Moore.
